The GPC Banas-Paithani, Pauri Garhwal, Indian Red Cross Society, Uttarakhand State Branch, is a crucial humanitarian organization dedicated to serving the people of Uttarakhand.

Establishment and mission

The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) was established nationally in 1920 under an Act of Parliament. The Uttarakhand State Branch, active since May 13, 2002, is recognized by the National Headquarters. Its mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering impartially, without discrimination. The organization aims to improve the lives of vulnerable people and promote humanitarian principles and laws, particularly among children and youth. 

Core Areas of Activity

The IRCS in GPC Banas-Paithani, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand focuses on four main areas: 

  1. Promoting Humanitarian Principles and Values:Encouraging community behaviour based on values like protecting life, health, dignity, and promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
  2. Disaster Response:Providing aid during various emergencies such as floods, earthquakes, and epidemics.
  3. Disaster Preparedness:Helping communities prepare for and respond to disasters through training and local initiatives.
  4. Health & Care in the Community:Running programs for public health, first aid, blood donation, HIV/AIDS prevention, and maternal and child welfare. 

Organization and Structure

The State Headquarter is located in Dehradun. The Governor of Uttarakhand serves as the President, and the Health Minister is the Vice President. The branch includes 13 District Branches, along with Junior and Youth Red Cross units in schools and colleges across the state. These branches are largely autonomous but follow guidance from the State Headquarters.
