About NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) in India is a voluntary public service program for students at the college and university level. It was established in 1969 with the aim of developing social consciousness, promoting community service, and fostering national integration and development. The NSS is managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with various educational institutions.

NSS Students participate in the NSS engage in various activities such as community development, healthcare campaigns, literacy programs, environmental conservation, and disaster management.

These activities are intended to instil a sense of responsibility, empathy, and leadership skills among the youth. Participation in the NSS is voluntary (on the principle of “not me but you”, emphasizing the importance of selfless service to society), and students actively engage in activities can earn certificates and gain additional weightage in their academic evaluations. The program not only contributes to the social
development of communities but also helps students in their personal
growth and character building.

The NSS has been instrumental in creating a positive impact on society by addressing various social issues and contributing to the welfare of marginalized communities. It promotes the spirit of national service and encourages young people to act.
